Hi Kenny, please tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Kenny Wu and I currently live in San Gabriel.  I was born in Hong Kong but grew up in the San Gabriel/San Marino area.  I went to school at UC Berkeley and the University of Illinois but eventually worked my way back to Southern California.  I work as an ER physician.  In my free time, I like watching basketball, especially the Lakers.  I am a huge car enthusiast and enjoy restoring old cars.  I am mostly into vintage/classic cars from Japan and Europe.  My pride and joy are my 1971 BMW 2002 and a 1994 Mazda RX7.

What classes do you take and what got you interested?

I try to go to all the BJJ classes I can.  I also take Muay Thai classes.  I got interested because I have been practicing and competing in Taekwondo and Muay Thai for many years, and I wanted to be a more complete fighter so I decided to start BJJ.

How long have you been training and what is your current belt rank?

At the moment, I have been practising BJJ for just over a year and I am a white belt with 2 stripes.

What is your favorite part of the Jiu-Jitsu or Muay Thai class?

My favorite part of both the Muay Thai and BJJ classes is sparring.  I love applying the techniques I learned in real situations.

Do you have a favorite Jiu-Jitsu or Muay Thai technique?

Favorite BJJ technique is anything from De La Riva guard.

What current and future goals do you have?

The current goal is to get better every day and learn as many techniques as possible.  I am hoping to start competing in 2020. My future goal is to earn my black belt.

Kenny’s goal is to compete in 2020 and eventually earn his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt should be anyone’s goal starting Jiu-Jitsu. It is a journey of years. It requires true dedication to the art. Because of that many unfortunately won’t attain this degree of knowledge and elite skill level. If you would like to take on such a challenge come join our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy located in San Gabriel/Alhambra adjacent.
