Silanoe Martial Arts 1st year anniversary!

We had something special to celebrate at Silanoe Martial Arts: our first year in existence!
As a big thank you to our amazing students we had a great day of fun in store for them and their families.

The Kids Jiu-Jitsu belt promotions first

We first started with the Kids Jiu-Jitsu Belt Promotions. Our youngest Jiu-Jitsu students have all worked tremendously hard on their techniques lately. At practice they have been training their hip escapes, double leg takedowns, sprawls and different escapes such as from the mounted position. As always, hard work pays off: congratulations to everyone who got promoted!

Our Adults getting their well-deserved belt promotion too

For the adults, we had a good amount of new students getting their first stripe. Confucius already stated it best: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Congrats to all of you. Our more advanced students also received more stripes. They also have been working hard to reach their next belt color level. This particular belt promotion ceremony was extra special because we had 3 students getting promoted to their next belt color.
In total we had 2 students receiving their Blue Belt and 1 student being promoted to Purple Belt here at Silanoe Martial Arts. According to tradition one celebrates a color belt promotion with with a genuine traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belt ceremony gauntlet.

After that it was celebrating together with some tasty BBQ

To celebrate we all enjoyed some BBQ food together. With the amazing help of Carlos and Sal we were able to enjoy some tasty barbeque food. The hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza and salads were paired up with some tasty specialty beer. This was provided by our sponsor Concrete Jungle Brewery. The extremely talented Caliana Lawrence performed for us and really set the ambiance with live music. For the kids we had a bouncy house for hours and hours of fun.

The Raffle and its grand prize: pie throwing in Professor Gino’s face

We organized a raffle for our students with several prizes. There was a Caliana Lawrence t-shirt, Silanoe Martial Arts merchandise, a goodie bag from our sponsor Total Nutrition located in the city of Monrovia, and the grand prize: a pie to throw in Professor Gino’s face. Watch the video on our Youtube channel for the result of that!

Time to wrap it up

After a great day of festivities, we had San Gabriel local business Nomad Ice Pops come out. They brought one of their carts to serve our students and families fresh specialty ice cream. Make sure to check out and support this local business located in the heart of the San Gabriel Mission district. With lots to clean up after, it was a sign of a great day with good times.
We would like to thank all of our students and their families for attending our special day and celebrating it together with us. We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone at the next event!
