Hi Dave, please tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Dave Hall and I’m a 37-year-old Biostatistician living in Pasadena and working in pediatric cancer research.

What classes do you take and what got you interested?

I was originally taking both Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu, but now I’m just focusing on Jiu Jitsu. I’ve always liked combat sports. The Martial Art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is my favorite.

How long have you been training and what is your current belt rank?

I’ve been training BJJ on and off for about 4 years. I’ve been at my current rank of Blue Belt for 3 of those years.

What is your favorite part of the Jiu-Jitsu class?

My favorite part of the Jiu-Jitsu class is applying new techniques to my game during sparring.

Do you have a favorite Jiu-Jitsu technique?

Yes, I do. My favorite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu technique is the choke from the back using the Jiu-Jitsu gi.

You occasionally train Muay Thai Kickboxing as well. What aspects do you like about it?

I like trying something new. The learning curve is much faster at something like Muay Thai Kickboxing where I have very little experience.

You have started competing recently. What do you like about it?

I like competing because it’s a chance to test myself. I also consider it a great learning experience. Nothing makes you evaluate your game like competition.

What current and future goals do you have?

I would like to win a Jiu-Jitsu tournament and be promoted to Purple Belt something in the next year.
